Naish Rider Casper Steinfath Takes Sprint Race Champion Title at NY SUP Open
September 5, 2019, Long Beach, New York - In an epic battle, Casper Steinfath pushed from third place to claim the New York SUP Open Pro Sprint race champion title with an impressive win on his Naish Mailko and on his 26th birthday nonetheless.
Kicking off the New York SUP Open, the Pro Sprint race did not disappoint with swell and offshore winds from a massive hurricane lingering south of the East Coast. The APP’s already-challenging signature racecourse became an epic battle until the very end.
Coming into the race, Casper was laser focused on winning. His extreme training along with his vast open ocean experience gave him a huge advantage as many riders lost balance and stamina in this unique and multi-faceted race.
Along with Casper’s training, he was stoked to have the Maliko at his feet for this race claiming, “The Naish 2020 was practically designed for the technical Race conditions here at Long Beach New York. It’s ability to accelerate off the start, charge through the surf and fly around buoys proved to be top of the field. I’d say it passed the test.”
Casper held the lead by a hair each round of the race until the final round where he fell behind to third place after rounding the buoy.. but not for long. Seconds to the finish line, Casper caught a nice bump that he was able to capitalize on and push ahead to victory.
Casper stated, “I’m so Freaking stoked to win here IN New York! The final was one of the Best races of my life and I can’t wait to continue my campaign towards claiming the 2019 APP Sprint World Title at the end of the year!!”
Following his win, Casper joined top racers in the Big Apple with his Naish Maliko for the iconic distance race around the Statue of Liberty on Saturday, September 7th where Casper placed 9th. Casper is currently in 3rd place overall in the APP World Tour. The next stop is Japan, where he will be striving to win and climb higher in the rankings to claim the APP World Tour Title.
