Kyle Mackie completes the Maui to Molokai 27 Mile Downwind Race
It's downwind season in Hawai'i! The Molokai Holokai is a 27-mile downwind race and fundraiser for the benefit of Molokai schoolchildren, and this year the foilers came to play. With modern surf hydrofoils opening new doors on the water, wing and SUP-foilers are achieving nearly endless rides and breaking records on open-ocean swells.
This year I rode in the wingfoil division and completed the island crossing from Maui to Molokai in an hour and fifty minutes, with some incredible moments gliding in the middle of the oceanalong the way.
My H-Series MkII Cab Fusion foil had the range I needed for high speeds in the channel, and the low-end to keep me going in light conditions across the finish line.
With equipment breakthroughs and many top athletes pushing the boundaries, we are very excited to see what possibilities the future will bring for our time on the water. Mahalo to Cabrinha and Dakine Wind for making all the gear and safety equipment I could need to fly for twenty-seven miles, from my home island to another, unassisted!
